I believe the Declaration of Independence and Constitution of the United States are the enduring compact that bind our States and nation together. They must be interpreted and understood according to their plain meaning when they were written. Yet they transcend their time and continue …
It is my honor and privilege to serve as Justice on the Fifth Court of Appeals, Place 2. My pledge as always is that I will not legislate from the bench, I will apply the Constitution and laws according to their plain meaning, and I will guard the rights of everyone to seek justice under our laws by being fair and impartial in applying the law. I take seriously my oath to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States and Texas. I believe all people are created equal and are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, among which are the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
For almost 18 years I have served Texas as a trial judge and now an appellate justice, so I bring years of experience from having decided thousands of cases, hundreds of jury trials, and hundreds of appeals. I rule fairly and impartially based on the law applied to the facts of each case. I strictly construe the laws enacted by your elected representatives so I do not re-write those laws when deciding cases.
The Fifth Court of Appeals hears appeals of civil, criminal, family, juvenile, and probate and estate cases from Collin, Dallas, Grayson, Hunt, Kaufman, and Rockwall Counties. Because of the size of my district, I need your help to communicate my experience and record to millions of voters. I appreciate your interest in my campaign, and I am honored to serve you on this Court.
